Be a part of the SLCC Backpack Project!

Homelessness and lack of money for basic essentials are not experiences we like to think of for anyone in our community.  So when the members and friends of San Leandro Community Church discovered that these situations affect the lives of children in our neighborhood, we knew it was time to act.  Imagine entering middle school without the supplies you need just to do homework. Backpacks and School Supplies are needed for displaced and low-income students at Bancroft Middle School. We invite you to join with others in our community in making a positive impact in the lives of many middle school students and their families during the upcoming school year. 

How Can I Help?

There are three main ways we can work together to provide a good start to the school year that every student deserves:

• The backpack and supplies will cost about $20 per student. The list of required supplies can be found at http://www.bancroft-broncos.com/students/school_supplies.htm  All donations are gratefully accepted.
• COME to a Backpack Packing Party on Saturday, August 13^th at 5:00pm.  We will stuff backpacks, enjoy finger foods, raffle some fun prizes and generally have a great evening! Everyone is welcome.
• Spread the word! Twitter, Facebook, Telephone, Tell-A-Friend!  Even if you don’t have the time or money to participate otherwise, your word-of-mouth will really help make a difference.

The Backpack Playgroup looks forward to working with you to ensure that every child who attends Bancroft Middle School is given a chance to thrive. To make a monetary donation, send a check, payable to San Leandro Community Church, note “Backpacks”, to 1395 Bancroft Avenue, San Leandro, California 94577. Please contact our church office with any questions or if you would like to donate something for the raffle.  You can also check back here for updates.
